A McDonald’s in Ashton-under-lyne is serving breakfast to the homeless on Christmas morning.

At least fifteen staff have volunteered to come into the restaurant bright and early on 25th December to pour hot drinks and plate up bacon rolls.

This is the second consecutive year that Ashton McDonald’s has opened its doors on Christmas Day.

Manager Jonathan Hinsley has credited his team with making it happen.

"I put something on our internal Facebook about it and within 10 minutes I had 15 employees volunteering to come in on Christmas morning,” he said.

Rough sleepers can pop into the restaurant between 8am and 10am for a bite to eat, a warm drink and a chat.

Local charities Greystones Tameside (an outreach service for the homeless) and We Shall Overcome Ashton (a movement dedicated to fundraising through events) will also be on hand to offer support.

"To us it's not just about feeding people, it's about giving something back,” Jonathan commented.

"At this time of year, people in this sort of situation can feel isolated a little bit because they don't have anywhere to go.”
