It was announced yesterday that due to 'unprecedented levels of sickness' and drivers on leave, Northern Rail would cancel some of their Christmas Eve services.
Well, they've kept their word.
A number of trains are cancelled this morning and several services have been scrapped.
There will be a reduced service from Lancaster to Morecambe, which will also have a replacement bus service, another reduced service from Manchester Piccadilly to Hadfield and a reduced service from Liverpool Lime Street to Wigan North Western which will have an hourly replacement bus service.
There have also been a number of cancellations from Blackpool North, and if you are travelling from there it is highly advised to check online for further cancellations.
@northernassist @northernfail #northernfail Merry Christmas from northern rail, can’t wait for you to lose your franchise, but then again boris couldn’t give a shit about anyone north of Watford gap so he’ll probably give u a ten year extension. In response to the disruption, Northern said: "Alongside the annual leave entitlements at this time of the year, we currently have unprecedented levels of sickness.
"That means we expect there to be some pre-planned cancellations on certain lines. We are sorry for any disruption customers may face. Please check before you travel.
"We do not cancel services lightly and routes with cancelled services are chosen carefully to minimise the impact on customers.
"On each of the affected routes, our customers will have a range of alternative options available to them including other Northern services, trains run by other operators or rail replacement road transport.
"We are sorry for the inconvenience this will cause our customers. Please check immediately before you travel".
Seriously, if you are travelling today, keep checking online and have a back up plan for getting home.
