The cinema chain has released a statement today detailing its plans to reopen screens across the country from as early as July.
As the UK prepares to enter into the next phase of the lockdown exit plan, Cineworld has said it hopes to reopen branches in alignment with the necessary social distancing measures and outlines put in place by the government.
Cineworld is the second-largest cinema chain in the world, operating 128 branches in the UK & Ireland and a number of which are based in Greater Manchester.
In a statement addressing its reopening plans this morning, the firm said: “Cineworld currently anticipates that Government restrictions related to cinemas will be lifted in each of its territories by July.”
“Subject to this and confirmation of the schedule for film releases, Cineworld anticipates the reopening of all of its cinemas in July. Cineworld has put in place procedures to ensure a safe and enjoyable cinema experience for its employees and customers.”
Cineworld made the decision to temporarily close all locations in the UK until further notice on 18th March in order to comply with government regulations amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
In a statement given at the time of closing via its website, Cineworld said: “We are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all of our employees and guests. We deeply value our movie-loving customers and their health and wellbeing is our number one priority during this difficult time.”
“We look forward to welcoming you back as soon as possible to enjoy a full slate of film releases.”
Although no exact dates have been confirmed for reopening, nor have plans to indicate whether reopening will be done partially or fully, the chain added that: “Cineworld, as always, greatly believes in the theatrical experience and is fully committed to be the best place to watch a movie”.
It has also offered film fanatics an insight into which movies are likely to be hitting UK screens first.
“Cineworld is excited by the great movie line-up to follow the reopening of cinemas, starting with the highly anticipated new Christopher Nolan movie Tenet and immediately after that with Mulan, a new Disney adventure movie.”
