Coronation Street star Irene Sutcliffe has died at the age of 88.
Best known for playing shopkeeper Maggie Clegg in the soap and sharing the screen with icons such as Ena Sharples and Elsie Tanner, she also had a long and impressive career in the theatre.
She began working on the television in the '50s and appeared on many of the oldest and most famous shows such as Dixon of Dock Green and Pathfinders in Space.
She recently enjoyed stints in Doctors and Doc Martin. Her long career saw her continue on the small-screen until 2015 when she stared in The Royals.
She will be remembered by old fans of Corrie for running a corner shop. In the seven years she spent on the show, her storylines included having to deal with her alcoholic husband and adopted son.
She also often starred in popular stage shows as the theatre was her first love.
The death of the Burnley born actress was announced last night, she passed away on the 3rd of May.
