A “hero” sniffer dog who helped police carry out search work following the Manchester bomb has died.
Poppy, part of the Greater Manchester Police Tactical Aid Unit, was reportedly set to receive a bravery award from police for her service.
She passed away unexpectedly earlier this week.
GMP Tactical Dog Unit confirmed the news via their social media channels, publishing a tribute message accompanied by photos of Poppy on Twitter.
“Hero and legend are oft overused words but in the case of Poppy they are entirely appropriate,” the tweet read.
“Employed in searches after the Manchester bomb Poppy was due to receive a bravery award for her service Sadly we have to report she died suddenly this week.
“RIP beautiful girl.”
