The countdown to the festive markets is officially underway, with the big day now getting closer and closer.

This year will be the 20th anniversary of the Manchester Christmas Markets, meaning it’s an extra special one this time round.

And now the mug designs have been released, with the usual two options on offer again.

One of the mugs will be for coffee and hot chocolates, while the other mug will be specifically for mulled wine.

2019’s designs are a geometric-style, triangular Santa Claus on a navy background on the smaller cup, and a similar triangular polar bear on a white background for the bigger mug.

As per usual you’ll have to pay £3 deposit for the mug when you buy a drink, and you can either return it for a refund or keep it as a festive souvenir.

The annual Christmas event is returning to Manchester from Friday November 8th until Saturday December 21st - although traders operating in Albert Square will be open until 4pm on Sunday December 22nd - and stalls will be open seven days a week.

Despite concerns the markets wouldn’t be able to operate in Albert Square due to renovations to the Town Hall, the main hub of stalls will in fact be returning there - although it’s likely this will be the last time Albert Square hosts stalls.

And this year the markets are going to be even bigger, as they’re set to expand to Piccadilly Gardens for the first time ever, bringing with it brand new food and craft stalls and a bar area - bringing the total number of traders to 300.
