Oldham pensioner who spends Christmas alone gets amazing surprise

BBC Breakfast viewers were in tears after a lonely pensioner was given a festive surprise after spending 20 years alone during Christmas.

Students from Oldham College visited Terrence with a Christmas tree in tow and decorated it for him.

Then, the student choir performed Christmas carols outside his home as an emotional Terrance watched.

The surprise was organised by BBC presenter Dan Walker after he was moved by Terry's story after he appeared on a programme about loneliness at Christmas.

Despite spending the last 20 years alone on Christmas Day, Terrance is a volunteer for Age UK and makes sure he visits his friend Nancy, who suffers with dementia, every year.

Speaking about spreading his own Christmas cheer, he explained: “I love doing volunteering, it’s helped me so much. I used to always be on my own."

“I am giving something back, because Age UK give me hope in the first place.”

What an incredible man. We hope Terrance has the best Christmas possible this year.
