Five of the country's happiest towns are in Northern England (of course)… and one is actually right around the corner.
At least one spot in Greater Manchester had to make the cut, right?
Rightmove’s Happy At Home survey saw over 22,000 people talk in detail about their respective towns; responding to questions concerning local amenities, culture, schools, and community spirit.
Respondents also offered feedback on the safety of their areas, wages, living standards and neighbours.
Alongside Alty, fellow northern towns Harrogate and Skipton made the top ten, as well as seaside town Southport.
Wales claimed two places - Llandrindod Wells and Monmouth - whilst Richmond-upon-Thames emerged as the happiest spot in the London area.
Dorchester in Dorset and Sevenoaks in Kent also scored high.
The top spot, however, has gone to a quaint North-East market town in Northumberland: Hexham.
Here’s the list of Britain’s happiest places in full:
1. Hexham, North East
2. Harrogate, Yorkshire and the Humber
3. Richmond-upon-Thames, London
4. Skipton, Yorkshire and the Humber
5. Llandrindod Wells, Wales
6. Altrincham, North West

Elsewhere in Greater Manchester, Bury just missed out on the top 100 happiest towns, whilst Stockport weren’t far behind (104th).
