This weekend’s rule changes at Greater Manchester’s tips

Recycle For Greater Manchester

Some restrictions are set to be lifted at recycling centres across Greater Manchester this weekend.

Visitor limitations implemented to ease congestion are being removed on 6 June.

The number plate system – which allocated specific visiting days to vehicles depending on their car registration – is being scrapped, meaning Greater Manchester residents can go to tips on any day of the week from Saturday.

However, people are being reminded they should still only visit disposal units if they “really need to”.

Despite the changes, vehicles over 2m high, transit vans and trailers are still not permitted to enter tips.

Recycling centres will not be accepting trade waste, either.

A full list of items currently being accepted includes:

  • cardboard
  • garden waste (no soil)
  • general waste including small bulky items
  • hardcore and rubble
  • scrap metal
  • wood and timber

Social distancing measures will continue across all sites, with only one person permitted to exit each vehicle.

Many recycling centres in the region are now operating 8am – 6pm, Monday to Sunday.
