It’s that time of the year when the children of Greater Manchester head back to school, their bags full of brand new stationery and equipment to see them through the year.
As such, it’s not uncommon to see back to school ranges advertised in all the major supermarkets, and Tesco is no exception.
However, one display at their Baguley branch in Wythenshawe has raised a few eyebrows, as the stock on offer is not the usual offering, to say the least.
An eagle-eyed shopper spotted the embarrassing mix up, in which a banner reading ‘School Shop’ was placed above a lot - and I mean A LOT - of cans of lager.
The back to school range consists of Fosters, San Miguel, Stella Artois, and what looks like Thatchers in the distance, although I can’t quite make it out.
Maybe the booze is for the teachers, who might need a can or two after a long week back on the grind, but either way it’s definitely not a good idea to get your kids beer for their lunch box.
Kath Marshall posted the photo in the Facebook group Mint Manchester yesterday morning, Sunday September 8th, and people were quick to comment on the placement.
One group member, Christina Rees, wrote: “This is Tesco Baguley. The same shop that had a problem with a disgusting smell they couldn’t get rid of, where a man punched a baby in the face and where I witnessed one man following another man round the aisles shouting ‘I know you’re a paedo!’”
Well, if the teachers aren’t interested, the parents have definitely earned a few cans for surviving another summer holiday. Perhaps the beers are exactly where they’re meant to be after all…
