It all kicked off at Aldi this morning with reports of people physically fighting over Kevin the Carrot toys after they finally hit shelves.
Doors opened at normal time this morning to whopping queues of people who pushed and shoves their way into Aldi stores across the country in an effort to get their hands on the elusive plush toy.
Well that was an experience, adults pushing and shoving for plush toys. I got a sprout and tomato though, after queuing since 6.30am #kevinthecarrot— michelle (@meisshell) November 28, 2019
@AldiUK Just happened to be in Aldi buying kitchen towel at 8am. Ok, I admit it, I planned an early dash to acquire the greatest collection of carrot family characters. And sprouts have never been so popular, got the last one in store! 😅🥕🍅#KevinTheCarrot #RussellSprout pic.twitter.com/IVQ6YkQ0Ix— Sue (@Sue_Who) November 28, 2019
Tweeting on the scene at one store, Dan Youngman said: "This is not a drill, there are people in Aldi’s fighting over Kevin the carrot toys!"
Aldi limited the purchases of the giant toys to only two per customer after interest soured last week following an online sale surge.
Kevin the Carrot has become a bit of a cult hero after becoming the lead in Aldi's festive TV adverts, becoming a hit amongst both adults and children.
So the demand for physical versions of him comes as no surprise, nor does the fighting to be quite honest, 2019 has been a strange year.
