A genius mum has discovered a new way of stopping her toddler from crying when she has to leave the room without him.

Japanese mum Fuki Sato created a lifesize cardboard cut out of herself that she then places in sight of her son so he thinks she's still there when she's not – and it works a treat.

The idea recently went viral on Twitter when Nezi, Fuki's husband and father of their child, posted photos of the cutout in action. It was retweeted over 120,000 times.

In total, Fuki has two cutouts that she uses to fool her son. One where she is kneeling down and one where she is standing.

She places them just out of her son's reach so he can't figure out what's really going on.

On social media, the dad wrote: "It's hard because my one-year-old child cries as soon as mum disappears.

"As a countermeasure, I experimented with what would happen if I set up a 'life-sized panel mother'."

Mum's take note, especially at Christmas when you're rushed off your feet and need to leave the room for a couple of minutes!
