A new ice cream drive-thru service has opened at a farm in Cheshire and is already off to a flying start with members of the public after it’s opening weekend.
The Ice Cream Farm, in Tattenhall near Chester, is one of the North West’s most popular family attractions and it has found a way to serve fans their ice cream fix in a safe and socially distanced capacity.
The unique drive-thru service opened for the first time on Saturday and it’s safe to say, it went down a real treat.
A statement introducing the drive-thru via the website reads: “Although we are still some time off opening our doors again, we are very excited to introduce The Ice Cream Farm Drive Thru. You can scoop up your favourite flavours from the comfort of your car daily”.
“Social distancing and safety measures are super important to us, so rest assured that this a safe way to enjoy a scoop or two of our award-winning ice cream, or simply pick up a pack to take home”.
There are 30 mouth-watering flavours to choose from.
As well featuring the classics that we all know and love, you can also try out some more unique offerings including Jammy Dodger, Bakewell Tart, Turkish Delight and Creme Egg. A range of ice cream alternatives and sorbets that are suitable for vegans and those with intolerances are also available.
Following a successful opening weekend, the drive-thru is now set to be open every day of the week and the owners are hoping that, if continuously well-received by the public, it could become a permanent fixture after lockdown is lifted too.
Speaking on the decision to open the drive-thru service, Jonathan Fell, Director of The Ice Cream Farm, said: “We have seen other attractions and restaurants offering a ‘click and collect’ type offer but we wanted to explore how we could offer something a little bit different whilst still adhering to the guidelines.”
“After a lot of Zoom calls, we have managed to design something that provides our visitors with almost the full range of our ice cream whilst maintaining strict health and safety practices for both our team and customers.
“A ‘Drive-Thru’ concept is something that I have always thought would be a welcome addition to the attraction.”
He continued: “We know that it can be a little off-putting for the ‘ice cream only’ customer to visit us during peak season due to the popularity.”
“A ‘Drive-Thru concept may be the solution as it will assist us in satisfying the ice cream enthusiast, as well as the families who want to come for the full ‘play’ experience.
“By providing a facility such as this, it should relieve the pressure inside the park and improve the visitor experience for all. The business model will have to adapt to survive post COVID-19 and this only is the first step of a wider strategy.”
The Ice Cream Farm drive-thru is open daily from 12pm – 4pm.
Please note that the drive-thru service can only welcome cars and cyclists at this time – pedestrians are not permitted.
