Police appeal for information after Rochdale assault leaves man in ‘critical condition’
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of assault, and will remain in custody for questioning.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) is appealing for information after a man has been left in a “life-threatening condition” following an assault.
According to a statement released by GMP on the incident, at around 3:15am on Sunday 27 February 2022, officers received a report of an unconscious male on Packer Street in Rochdale town centre.
Enquiries have established that the man – who is believed to be in his 30s – had been punched and had subsequently fallen to the floor.
He was taken to hospital where he is “fighting for his life”, police said.
GMP has since confirmed that two men, who are aged 23 and 25, have been arrested on suspicion of assault.
They will remain in custody for questioning.
Speaking on the nature of the incident and appealing for information from the public, Detective Inspector Matthew Hamer, of GMP’s Rochdale district, said: “This assault has left the victim fighting for his life [and] it is our hope that he makes a full recovery.
“Though two suspects are in custody, our investigation is very much ongoing and I would like to appeal to anyone with information to contact us.
“This happened at the end of a night out so it is likely members of the public and taxi drivers witnessed it and may have mobile phone or dash cam footage to assist us.”
Anyone with information on the above incident should contact Greater Manchester Police quoting 476 27/02/22 via 0161 856 8512 or gmp.police.uk, and information can also be shared anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
