England captain Harry Kane has been applauded for his “classy” response after a number of high-profile pundits took aim at his team’s start to Euro 2024.
The response comes after England‘s admittedly reserved opening performances, beating Serbia 1-0 but failing to be ruthless following the early goal and drawing 1-1 against Denmark whilst playing similarly defensive for most of the game.
Understandably, fans and pundits alike haven’t been overly impressed with their start to the Euros; most notably Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker said that “Kane needs to do better” on BBC coverage. The latter also summed up England’s showing in the second game as “sh*t” on The Rest Is Football podcast.
However, Kane hasn’t let the criticism go unanswered, issuing a short but sweet reply to pundits following the early verdict on Gareth Southgate‘s side this far, urging them to think twice and just “remember” what it’s like to be in that situation.

Insisting that he’ll never be “disrespectful to any player, especially a player who has worn the shirt and knows what it is like to play for England,” he couldn’t have put it better, simply stating: “Remember what it’s like to wear the shirt”.

Level-headed from the skipper – who was already one of the first to admit that he knows England haven’t been at their very best – and it seems that rather than doubling down on the criticism, a lot of fans found his response pretty pitch-perfect.
Popular footy account, The 44, called it “a very classy response from our country’s captain”, while another added: “Excellent response from Harry Kane to be fair.”

Author Hashi Mohamed went on to say: “Kane is often portrayed as thick. But this thoughtful response to former players and now pundits is very thoughtful. Lineker and the others have a responsibility to build up not tear down. Be honest but be constructive too. They’re still human beings.
On the other hand, not everyone was so convinced by the Bayern Munich striker’s words, with many stating that the talking just needs to be done on the pitch.

Kane did go on to add that “what ex-players or ex-players who are pundits now have got to realise it is very hard not to listen to it now” in the age of social media and it’s “tough” enough to represent your country without having to hear that from your peers and role models.

He also warned them to be extra mindful of the younger players “who are not used to it or some players who are new to the environment.”
England take on Slovenia tomorrow (Tuesday, 25 June) at 8pm and although they are likely to qualify with the four points they already have, singing off the group stages with a win would do wonders for their own confidence and across the nation.
Whatever you’ve made of Southgate and the boys so far, there aren’t many times when the whole country gets to unite in support of one thing and at the end of the day, you have to back them – and when they feel that support behind them, maybe they’ll start to play how we know they can.

Leigh Leopards share update regarding Tesi Niu allegations

Greater Manchester rugby league side Leigh Leopards have now issued an update addressing the allegations levelled at one of their players, Tesi Niu.
With the statement coming directly from the club’s owner, Derek Beaumont, the club have shed light on their understanding of the situation.
Beaumont, who bought the team over a decade ago and rebranded it from ‘Centurions’ to the Leopards back in 2022 (and also owns a local decking company based in Worsley), appeared to speak on behalf of the club following the accusations made last week.
Sharing an official communication on social media on Wednesday afternoon, 8 January, they open by saying that “the club is aware of social media activity of concern from one of its players’ accounts, that of Tesi Niu.”
“The club can confirm that the player’s account was accessed externally and without his knowledge or consent”, they continue, “and [was] deleted a short period thereafter.”
“We were instantly aware of this as it happened”, says the Leigh Leopards owner. “As a club, we have policies and procedures and employ a Player Welfare Manager who is a qualified counsellor.
“Our first port of call in these circumstances is to ensure the welfare of our player and any external party that may be involved. This was immediately initiated.
“Having since personally spoken with Tesi and Kiana individually and at length, and then our Player Welfare Manager and Head Coach, I am completely satisfied that they are both being fully supported.
“I can also confirm that there is no official complaint to the club regarding the player, nor to any relevant authorities. To that end, the club will make no further statements about the matter and would welcome supporters’ trust in the club’s processes and findings.”

While the organisation has now insisted that nothing formal has been raised within the club nor with the police at this time, many supporters are still insisting that there must be a full investigation into the troubling claims.
At present, however, the statement seems to suggest that they won’t be taking the matter any further internally – at least not for now/until a proper case is opened.
Nevertheless, many Leopards supporters, rugby fans and people online in general have understandably raised more concerns following the statement.
Neither Tesi Niu himself nor Kiana Smith – his partner of more than five years, currently said to be pregnant with their third child – has yet to share any further message(s) following the initial declaration of alleged abuse.

This pair of images has seemingly confirmed the claims made by trusted online kit source, Footy Headlines, who specialise in sharing pictures of the football shirts, boots and more, who had already reported on the release in 2025.
As you can see, not only does the design feature a striking blue take on the band’s iconic album art style (expanded from an original painting by guitarist John Squire), but if you look closely, it also features the band’s iconic song and overriding slogan, ‘I Wanna Be Adored’, built into the crest.
