A person has been hit by a train in Greater Manchester

A person has been hit by a train between Manchester Piccadilly and Stockport.

Lines between the two stations are currently closed while emergency responders and railway staff attend the incident.

The incident happened at around 1.30pm, according to National Rail.

The rail service is reporting major disruption, expected to last until 5.30pm.

Trains are subject to cancellations, delays of up to 60 minutes, and diversions.

All lines were initially closed but some have been authorised to reopen, though trains are still experiencing delays.

Train lines affected include Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, Northern, TransPennine Express and Transport for Wales.
