Aldi is rewarding staff with a pay bump for their hard work in the COVID-19 climate.
Pressure on the UK retail industry has increased as coronavirus cases rise, with panic buying and big crowds causing chaos in supermarkets across the country.
Aldi has recognised the incredible efforts of its 33,000 employees during this period - subsequently paying out a 10% bonus on all hours worked (from 9 March).
The store released a statement on its website on Tuesday (24 March) confirming the news.
It reads: "Aldi has today announced enhanced pay for its amazing colleagues, who have been working tirelessly throughout this extremely busy time. Store and distribution colleagues will receive a 10% bonus on hours worked, effective from 9th March 2020.
"It has also announced dedicated shopping times for Emergency Workers and increased support for small suppliers.
Aldi will open between 9.30am-10.00am on Sundays* solely for key workers in the NHS, Police and Fire Service. Eligible customers will be able to take priority at checkouts when they open at 10am. Entry to Aldi stores between 9.30am - 10.00am* will be with relevant ID only."
Aldi has been taking a number of steps to support customers and staff since the outbreak of the deadly virus, such as restricting high-demand items to two per person and adjusting opening times to keep shelves fully-stocked.
The supermarket is also collaborating with a number of different charities - including Neighbourly, Teenage Cancer Trust, and Age UK - to help those in need.
