Amazon to open office in city centre with almost 600 jobs up for grabs

Look busy. Some rather distinguished neighbours have just moved in…

A member of the privileged ‘Big Four’ and operator of the world’s largest online marketplace is opening a corporate office in the city centre.

Amazon's arrival is a reflection of Manchester's growing status in the tech world and is predicted to create as many as 600 jobs - including roles for software engineers, applied scientists and 'solutions architects’.

The grand opening is also being celebrated with a Future Engineer Bursary designed to fund computer science undergraduate studies at the University of Manchester for those from low-income backgrounds.

Doug Gurr, Amazon's UK country manager, said: "I am delighted we're opening our first corporate office in the north of England today.

"Manchester offers an incredible talent pool, a thriving hub of fast-growing UK tech start-ups and is a centre of academic and intellectual excellence.

"We are already actively hiring from a range of skill-sets for our new Manchester office, so if you've always wanted to build the future, come build it with us."

Jobs are being advertised online right now.

If you’re on the lookout for a new role, it might be worth heading over to the Amazon website to take a peek...
