Armed police detain have detained a man on Deansgate under the mental health act this afternoon.
The incident happened at around 2pm when police were called to Deansgate after receiving reports of a concern for welfare.
A video filmed at the scene and sent to The Manc shows a number of armed officers surrounding a man sat cross legged against a lamp post on the newly-pedestrianised street.
The officers were reportedly sent sent as a precaution.
The incident was “resolved quickly” according to Greater Manchester Police – with a member of the public getting a stern telling off by officers for walking towards the scene.
A spokeswoman for GMP said: “At around 2pm today (5 November 2020), officers were called to a report of concern for welfare of a man on Deansgate, Manchester.
“The man has been detained under the Mental Health Act.”
