Vandals in Bolton have targeted the offices of a local Member of Parliament – daubing windows and doors with crude graffiti.
Chris Green’s premises on Market Street in Westhoughton was spray-painted with messages and drawings overnight on Sunday (March 21).
Green – who represents the Bolton West constituency – posted an image of the damage online, deploring the actions of those responsible.
The Conservative MP stated: “I know that some people are feeling the pressure under lockdown, but this sort of behaviour is not acceptable for any reason or at any time.”
Political group Bolton Liberal Democrats also said it condemned the actions “unconditionally”.
“While we may disagree politically with Chris we find this behaviour outrageous & unnecessary,” a spokesperson commented.
“The people of Bolton West democratically elected Chris to be their MP. If you are unhappy with his work then make your voice heard at the ballot box.”
Green has held the Bolton West seat since the 2015 general election.
The MP resigned as a ministerial aide in October 2020 over national coronavirus restrictions, claiming the “attempted cure is worse than the disease”.
Green also joined the COVID Recovery Group – a cluster of Conservative Party politicians united against the strictest lockdown rules.
The MP wrote in November: “People do understand the real risks that Covid-19 presents so let us continue with high quality public information and encouragement to maintain those essential behaviour patterns that are key to reducing the spread of disease whilst allowing the majority to return to normal.”
