Derek Acorah’s cause of death revealed as beloved wife pays tribute

It was revealed today that legendary British television broadcaster Derek Acorah had sadly passed away.

The death of The Most Haunted star and TV personality came as a shock to many when it was revealed he had died after a short illness.

The 69-year-old who was born in Merseyside and lived in Ormskirk was just weeks away from his 70th birthday.

His wife, Gwen, announced the news in a statement on social media. Posting to Facebook, Gwen wrote: "Farewell my love! I will miss you forever! I’m devastated to announce that my beloved husband Derek has passed away after a very brief illness."

Derek passed away after a short battle with pneumonia led to a sepsis infection.

Speaking to The Sun, his wife said: "He was taken really quickly. It was pneumonia which got him in the end. He developed sepsis and was in intensive care. I'm heartbroken to have lost him. It's devastating that's he's gone."

Derek presented Most Haunted for six series, starting in 2001, and became well known for his larger than life personality. This led to the medium landing some high profile television specials throughout his career.

In a 2009 documentary, he attempted to reach out to late singer Michael Jackson’s ghost and previously offered to reach out to the spirit of Madeline McCann.

Derek then went onto appear in the 20th series of Celebrity Big Brother in 2017, which was his last major TV appearance. He finished fourth in the series.
