Former Salford school teacher jailed for child sex offences against pupil

A former Salford school teacher has been jailed for non-recent child sex offences against a pupil.
Gary Day-Davies, from Tyldesley, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday (Monday 8 June 2026) for his sentencing after being found guilty of three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault by penetration, and one count of sexual assault by touching of a child.
The offences occurred between 2006-09, when the victim was a pupil at a school in Salford that Day-Davies taught at.
The abuse took place both at school and in Day-Davies’ home after he invited the survivor to his house for ‘additional tuition’, before plying them with drugs and alcohol, and then proceeding to sexually abuse her.
The survivor bravely reported her abuse to Greater Manchester Police (GMP) back in 2022, a officers then conducted a thorough investigation.
Throughout the investigation, Day-Davies denied the offences.
When he was on trial, police say he provided little explanation and stated that the charges came as the survivor ‘must have just held a bit of a grudge’ against him.
Following the trial and sentencing, Day-Davies has been jailed for 15 years.
“Day-Davies took advantage of the young age of the survivor to invite her to his home and sexually abuse her,” explained Inspector Dave Ogden, of GMP’s Criminal Investigation Department in Salford. “He further sexually abused the survivor in the library and store cupboard in a classroom.”
Inspector Ogden insisted that ‘time is no barrier’, adding: “No matter how long ago it was, or how old you were at the time, we will listen to you.”

Two teens arrested after stabbing of 14-year-old boy in Manchester city centre

Two teenagers have been arrested following the stabbing of a 14-year-old boy in Manchester city centre over the weekend.
In case you need bringing up to speed first, at around 3:15pm this past Saturday afternoon (17 October 2026), officers from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called out to reports of a stabbing on the ninth floor of the Arndale carpark in Manchester city centre.
Emergency services attended the scene, and a 14-year-old boy was taken to hospital with injuries consistent with a stab wound.
Thankfully, the victim’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life changing, but an investigation and enquiries are ongoing.
Police conceded that this will ‘understandably’ cause concern in the community, but has assured the public that they believe this to be an ‘isolated incident.
And now, it has been confirmed that two teenage boys, also aged 14, were arrested on Sunday night (18 October) on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, and tat this time, they are currently in custody for questioning.
“We’d like to thank the local community for their support during our investigation as well as the passersby who helped the victim following this incident,” commented Detective Inspector Sean McFadden, of GMP’s City of Manchester district.
“Your quick-thinking undoubtedly saved the victim from potentially life-threatening injuries.
“We appreciate that incidents of this nature can cause concern and we’d like to reassure the public that we understand this was an isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the community.

Police have provided an update following the stabbing of a young boy in Manchester city centre over the weekend.

Detective Inspector Sam Jones, of GMP’s City of Manchester District CID, said this will ‘understandably’ cause concern, but has assured the public that police believe this to be an ‘isolated incident.
“Detectives at the scene are working extremely hard to process the scene with Crime Scene Investigators,” explained DI Jones in an update statement issued.
“The car park is expected to be closed for several hours, so we ask for your understanding and patience whilst we gather evidence to bring these offenders to justice.
“Detectives and Officers will be in the area today to speak with local businesses and members of the public to provide reassurance. This is believed to be an isolated incident with no risk to the wider public.
“Greater Manchester Police are committed to diligently investigating all knife crime and bringing offenders to justice, and we are asking for anyone with information about this incident to come forward to assist with our enquiries.”
