Group of teenagers club together taxi fare for stranded pensioner

Greater Manchester Police have taken to social media this afternoon to share a story of an ‘amazing display of kindness’ by a group of teenagers.

Following an ongoing incident in Eccles, where a 100m cordon is currently in place and a number of roads have been closed, police officers have praised a group of teenagers who pooled their money together to help pay the taxi fair for an elderly resident unable to get home.

The elderly resident is said to live at the other side of the police cordon.

Details of the heartwarming story were shared on the GMP Eccles Facebook page this afternoon in a post that read: “Amazing display of kindness shown at the scene by these teenagers who clubbed together to book a taxi for an elderly resident to enable to her to get home which was on the other side of our cordon.”

“That’s your random act of kindness done.”

The teenagers have been widely praised by members of the public for their generosity and the post has gone on to receive hundreds of interactions, shares and comments in less than an hour of being posted.

Greater Manchester Police stated that officers attended a property on Worsley Road, Eccles this morning following a report of concern for the welfare of a man.

It has been confirmed that a 35 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife.

Nearby buildings have been evacuated, a 100m cordon is in place and a number of road closures are in effect.

Bomb disposal officers are due to carry out a controlled explosion in due course.
