ITV Granada Reports presenter Tony Morris has died at the age of 57.

The Granada Reports staple, who has been on our screens for 17 years, died on August 1 at Bury Hospice after being diagnosed with kidney cancer last year.

His wife and daughter Natalie and Rebecca were by his side at the time of his death.

His co-presenter and longtime friend, Lucy Meacock, paid tribute to Tony today, saying: “He was without doubt one of the most humble, kind and funny people I have ever met, and he would often make me laugh till my sides ached.

“I am so very, very sad and my heart goes out to his daughters Nat and Becky.

“A smile from Tony Morris always brightened everyone’s day and certainly brightened up the whole of the North West for 17 years.”

“He would always be respectful but would always coax the best interviews out of people and never shy away from a direct question.”

Mr Morris had worked on Granada Reports for 17 years and had continued to appear on the programme until just a few weeks ago.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.

This is a breaking news story. More to follow.
