Lancashire Fire Service has hit out at poor-parking motorists in a new social media post – claiming engines are being obstructed from navigating streets safely.
The emergency service shared an image of a truck with its flashing lights attempting to manoeuvre through a narrow gap on a residential street in Clitheroe.
Urging drivers to park “more considerately”, the service reminded road users that “in other circumstances, this could have endangered lives.”
It is an offence to block an emergency vehicle – and firefighters can use their sirens to force residents to come out and move their cars if necessary. In extreme scenarios, drivers who have blocked routes could return to find their vehicles damaged by engines in a rush to reach the scene of an emergency.
The full post by Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service reads: “This is a friendly reminder to be mindful of where you’re parking your vehicles.
“On their way to a recent incident, firefighters from Clitheroe Fire Station had difficulty navigating some streets due to the parking of other road users.
“In other circumstances, this could have endangered lives.
“Thank you for parking considerately to allow emergency services access.”
