Man charged after M66 horror crash leaves pregnant woman and three children in hospital
The horrific accident closed the motorway in both directions.
A man has been charged after a crash on the M66 left a pregnant woman with life-threatening injuries and hospitalised three children.
A 22-year-old man from Accrington has been charged with three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Adil Iqbal has been remanded in custody and will appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court today.
The horror collision on Saturday afternoon occurred between two vehicles travelling southbound on the M66 in Bury.
A 38-year-old pregnant woman was taken to hospital with injuries that are believed to be life-threatening.
Three children were also hospitalised with serious injuries.
The road was closed in both directions while emergency services attended the scene.
Police have been appealing for witnesses and information.
Sergeant Matt Waggett from GMP Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Firstly, I would like to thank the members of the public who selflessly helped at the scene and called 999, as well as those who assisted when police and emergency services arrived on scene.
“I urge anyone who may have witnessed this incident to please come forward and share any footage, dashcam or mobile footage, with police. No matter how small you think it is, it could prove vital to our investigation.”
