Manchester International Festival has confirmed the first show of their MIF Live 2020 programme designed to entertain audiences in lockdown.

'New Order + Liam Gillick: So it goes...' will kickstart the online festival from Friday 17 April - as MIF plans to stream iconic shows, in-depth discussions and behind-the-scenes footage on a weekly basis.

Originally presented as part of MIF17, 'New Order + Liam Gillick: So it goes..' saw the legendary Manchester band (and a synthesiser ensemble) take over Old Granada Studios for a series of intimate performances created in collaboration with visual artist Liam Gillick.

A brand new edit - cut specifically for MIF Live 2020 - will give audiences an opportunity to witness the original show in all its glory.

'New Order + Liam Gillick: So it goes...' will be introduced and dissected by Manchester-based DJ and author Dave Haslam and Gillick himself, before plunging viewers into an audio-visual experience unlike any other.

John McGrath, Artistic Director & CEO, Manchester International Festival says: “New Order are Manchester legends with a truly global influence and we’re thrilled to be returning to this fantastic show to kick off MIF LIVE.

"Over the coming weeks we’ll be giving people a peek into our archives, revisiting some of our much-loved Festival shows along with opportunities to hear some of the artists talking about their work, plus exciting new work from Manchester artists.

"We’re grateful for the support of our artists, partners, co-commissioners and rights holders who have enabled MIF LIVE to happen as we find different ways to share and connect during these difficult times.”

MIF Live will also be hosting digital discussions - starting with singer-songwriter Neneh Cherry on Thursday 16 April.

All shows will be streamed via the Manchester International Festival Youtube channel.
