Police are warning pet owners to be ‘extra vigilant’ while walking their dogs, after two dogs died in a park in Altrincham.
It’s thought that the pair of dogs may have eaten or picked up something while in the bushes in Woodstock Park in Broadheath.
The owner didn’t notice anything was amiss at the time but both dogs became ill afterwards and tragically died.
In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said that dog owners should be ‘extra vigilant with their pets when in the park’ but added that they are ‘not aware of any risk to the public’.
Trafford Council has confirmed it’s working with the police and will be inspecting the site to decide the best course of action.
A statement from GMP said: “We have received reports that 2 dogs have sadly died over the last few weeks after being walked on Woodstock Park, Broadheath, Altrincham.
“These dogs had a free run of the park and may have eaten/picked up something whilst in the bushes. The owner did not notice anything until the dogs became ill afterwards.
“We are aware of local facebook pages that have posted regarding these incidents and we ask that dog owners be extra vigilant with their pets when in the park.
“Trafford council is aware and are conducting a site visit.
“At this time we are not aware of any risk to the public regarding this incident and will put out an update when we have the results of the site visit.”
Trafford Council added: “The Council is aware that two dogs have sadly died after being walked in Woodstock Park.
“We are working with GMP after reports they may have eaten or picked up something toxic off the floor. Council officers were due to inspect the site today to decide what action to take.”
