Police have responded to reports of a stabbing in Piccadilly Gardens near Primark tonight.
There is currently no through route between the Gardens and Fountain Street/High Street due to a large police cordon that remains in place.
Metrolink services have also been affected by the incident, which happened some time in the last hour. People are being advised to plan alternative ways home if you use the Market Street Metrolink stop.
According to the Manchester Evening News, a spokesperson for GMP said: "One man has been detained.
"It is not believed there is any further threat to the wider public at this time."
Two people are believed to have suffered stab injuries in the incident, while their conditions remain unknown.

Tweeting about the incident, @BrannonJT said: "Man slashed up and pouring blood outside Ladbrokes in Piccadilly. About 7-8 cop cars arriving."
According to police, one man has been detained. The investigation continues and the cordon remains in place.
