Most of us are acutely aware that marathon-length binge-watching isn’t the most healthy way to pass the time.
But these recently-released projections of what the habit could lead to are scary enough to make you slam your laptop shut and dash out into the garden.
Researchers over at Online Gambling have had a frank conversation with The Mirror about the dangers of curling up in the dark and staring at screens for days on end – revealing images of the damage it can do to your body.
The models show physical effects such as swollen ankles, rounded shoulders and a hunched back due to prolonged lack of movement, as well as long-term damage to extremities, hair loss (from lack of sunlight and vitamin D) and pale skin.
Excessive computer usage can also lead to baggy eyes and sleep deprivation.
Experts recommend limiting screen time for younger children and that adults take regular breaks wherever possible in order to stay healthy.
The good news is that the occasional binge won’t be detrimental to your wellbeing. Just be sure to get some sunlight and maintain a balanced diet.
