Shop workers assaulted in ‘appalling’ act of violence at Great Ancoats Street store

A group of women were arrested after attacking two members of staff at a shop on Great Ancoats Street last weekend.

Four females entered the MM2 newsagent store on Saturday evening and engaged in what has been described as an act of “appalling vandalism and assault”.

A JustGiving campaign has been launched to help the owners pay for damages. £590 has been raised so far – almost double the original target.

Greater Manchester Police commented: “Four women have been arrested after two shop workers were assaulted in Manchester.

“Shortly after 8.10pm on Saturday 20 June 2020 police were called to a report of an assault on Great Ancoats Street in Manchester.

“Two shop workers – a woman and a man – suffered minor injuries that did not require hospital treatment after they were assaulted at a store on Great Ancoats Street.

“Four women were arrested on suspicion of two counts of section 47 assault and criminal damage. They have since been released under investigation.”
