A terminally ill Manchester United fan who had a chance hospital meeting with his hero Sir Alex Ferguson last week, has sadly lost his battle with cancer.
Brave Damien Nixon who was told by doctors there was nothing else they could do for him, last week said he was "at peace" after his chance meeting with former Manchester United manager Fergie.
Sadly, just 13 days after the encounter, his wife Samantha had to break the devastating news to her friends, family, and supporters of her husband on her Facebook profile. Damien was only 32.
Samantha, who wed Damien just weeks after his diagnosis in a beautifully spontaneous wedding, wrote: "Cheers to my darling husband Damien. I’ll love you forever and more and I’ll do everything an more for the kids.
"You are an absolute warrior my love, you are now at peace,it’s only been short of 4 weeks that we have even known.
"You are the strongest man i have ever known fighting so hard when u weren’t given a chance at all, can’t say for words how much I loved you and r little family life I will do you proud that I promise."
Her post has received an outpouring of love and support from hundreds of people since posting it to Facebook this morning. Damien leaves behind two children, who he loved dearly.
A JustGiving page set up to help towards funeral costs and aftercare has been started by Damien's friends and family, and has already raised £20,000.
Our hearts go out to Samantha and her friends and family at this tough time. If you would like to donate to Damien's JustGiving page, you can do so here.
Rest in peace, Damien.
