The latest big development in Manchester is ‘newsworthy’ in every sense of the phrase – and it’s proving to be seriously hot property with Manchester residents.
This month, the iconic Co-op Printing Society building – which has stood since 1869 as one of Manchester’s biggest publishing venues for news and media – is completing its transformation from printing press to luxury apartments.
The Grade II listed building is steeped in Mancunian history, having been home to multiple publications for more than a century.
Production wound down during the 1970s, being used intermittently as office space.
Salboy developers have now stepped in to preserve the beautiful architecture and turn the Society into a classy New York-style living complex with 66 apartments and town houses.
Sophisticated kitchens and hotel standard bathrooms have been assembled between the exposed brick walls, wooden floors and original beams – with stunning staircases, stained-glass oak doorways and green tiles all restored and retained.
Flooded with natural daylight from the glass roof above, The Press is also perfectly positioned for residents to get the most out of city life – sitting close by to the green space of Angel Meadow and bars/restaurants of Northern Quarter.
Residents can also take advantage of excellent train and tram links, with Victoria and Shudehill on the doorstep.
Salboy founder and director, Simon Ismail said: “It has been a joy to see this building being brought back to life and save its unique heritage for future generations.
“The location offers the best of city centre life but also easy access to the open green of Angel Meadow Park and the wilder spaces of the Irk Valley.
“We know buyers love the character of old buildings and we believe we have managed to create really unique living spaces combining character and contemporary fittings.”
The first private viewings at The Press took place on 20 June, and the interest was huge. Meaning there is only a small handful of apartments now up for grabs. So you’ll need to act fast if you want to snap one up!
To ensure viewings are conducted safely, a one-way system is in place, along with 2m distancing and masks provided. Temperature checks are also performed upon arrival.
