A Manchester City fan favourite and cult figure’s time at the club has come to an end as Scott Carson will be leaving the club after more than half a decade.
The veteran goalkeeper, who started out life at Leeds United before going on to represent the likes of West Brom, Wigan Athletic and Derby County among several other clubs, has been the reserve shot-stopper at Man City for six seasons.
He arrived at the Etihad Stadium on loan back in 2019 before being made a permanent signing and part of the keeper rotation in the summer of 2021.
Despite very rarely playing for the team and mainly serving as a more of a senior statesman, trainer and would-be goalkeeping coach, he’s remained a popular figure in the dressing room through his time in East Manchester, and his departure has been met with nothing but a flood of fondness and gratitude.
Part of the reason his status at the club has been such a case of fascination is that he’s essentially landed the dream job in the twilight of his career.

Having made just two appearances over the course of nearly six whole years, completing a total of just 108 minutes, he quite literally has one of the best money earned and trophies earned per minute ratios on the planet.
With the 11 accolades he won as part of Pep Guardiola‘s set-up, he averaged a piece of silverware for every 9.8 minutes played at the club.

Confirming his departure in an official statement, the club wrote: “During his time at City, Carson has been praised by goalkeeping coach Xabi Mancisidor and peers Ederson and Stefan Ortega Moreno for his work ethic and the effect of his positive attitude amongst the group.
He has been part of a squad that has lifted 12 major honours over the last six seasons during what has been a historic period of success for Pep Guardiola’s team. Everyone at Manchester City would like to thank Scott for his hard work and dedication and wish him the very best of luck for the future.”
With his contract expiring amid the 2025 summer transfer window, he leaves City as a free agent at the age of 39; it remains to be seen whether or not he will be searching for a new club.
One thing we do know is that he’s had a ball of a time in blue.
Referees admit Manchester City’s derby-winning goal over Manchester United was a VAR ‘error’

Referees have admitted that Manchester City’s winning goal during yesterday’s Manchester derby was a VAR ‘error’.
In case you didn’t tune into the Manchester derby yesterday – which was held at Manchester United’s home ground, Old Trafford – star striker Erling Haaland’s goal handed Manchester City a 1-0 victory – in the end, even after fellow City player Phil Foden was given a straight red card and sent off in the twenty third minute.
Haaland‘s goal was initially deemed offside on the pitch, before VAR overruled the decision.
New City signing Enzo Fernandez was in an offside position as he attempted to play the ball before Haaland scored.
Fernandez appeared to impact the defending of Manchester United‘s Lisandro Martinez by attempting a diving header, despite not touching the ball.

Following the full-time whistle, United’s manager Michael Carrick said it was ‘worrying’ that the goal was allowed to stand, claiming that there was no ‘grey area’ when it came to determining whether Fernandez had interfered with play.
“It’s worrying if that’s how the game is seen by those who are officiating it,” he commented.
Pundit and former Manchester United star, Gary Neville, also expressed confusion at the decision, declaring on Sky Sports after the game: “I’m going to need the offside law explaining to me, because that has lost me, I have to say. I do think when they look back on this, they will recognise they got it wrong.”
Neville said he thinks that referee Michael Oliver will be ‘nervous’ about the goal yesterday, as will the rest of the officials.

And now, less than 24 hours after the match ended, refereeing body Pro Ref has since made what Sky Sports is calling an ‘unusual intervention by confirming that a review of the goal will take place.
A spokesperson for Pro Ref said in a statement: “It was established that Enzo Fernandez did not play the ball and therefore that makes any offside offence subjective, however, on this occasion, the VAR did not recognise the likely impact of his position and should have recommended an on-field review.
“Contact has been made with Manchester United to acknowledge what we deem is an error of judgement.
Manchester Storm’s record-breaking return to AO Arena goes down a storm with fans

Manchester Storm have made their grand return to the AO Arena, after more than two decades away from their former home.
And it appears the ice hockey craze (which may have been spurred on by a certain Heated Rivalry) is here to stay, with record-breaking numbers piling into the venue for Sunday’s match against Sheffield Steelers.
The AO Arena has now shared that a record crowd of 11,000 fans attended the long-awaited Manchester Storm homecoming last week.
The action has gone down a storm with fans, with plenty of chatter on social media (and videos of a certain fight) doing the rounds.
Manchester Storm’s homecoming has now smashed the record for an Elite Hockey pre-season fixture, with fans travelling from across Manchester and beyond.
As the team enters this new era, bidding farewell to the ‘Storm Shelter’ in Altrincham that’s been their home for a decade, demand for tickets is continuing to grow.
This is the first time fans have been able to see the club on the ice at the AO Arena since 2004, and last weekend they thrilled supporters with a 5-5 draw agains the Steelers.
Manchester Storm is now set to bring approximately 35 games to the city centre each year, providing a regular programme of major sporting events for Manchester and its visitors.
It also brings elite-level hockey back to one of Europe’s largest indoor sporting arenas.
