The BBC has finally unveiled the first trailer for its Doctor Foster spin-off Life ahead of the new series airing this autumn.
The 52-second teaser trailer for the six-part series – which is set in Manchester and is a linked spin-off of the beloved drama series Doctor Foster, which first aired on BBC One in 2015 – doesn’t appear to give too much away, but it’s already getting fans excited.
The BBC first announced the new spin-off series earlier this year in February.
Written and created Mike Bartlett and produced by Drama Republic, Life has a star-studded cast featuring Alison Steadman, Peter Davison, Adrian Lester, Victoria Hamilton, Melissa Johns, Rachael Stirling, Saira Choudhry, Erin Kellyman, Calvin Demba and Joshua James.
Victoria Hamilton will reprise her role from Doctor Foster – now going by the name of ‘Belle’ rather than Anna and seeking to rebuild her life anew – and Adam James will also appear later on in the series to reprise his Doctor Foster role as Belle’s now ex-husband Neil.
It will also star Elaine Paige and Susannah Fielding in key roles.
The official synopsis outlining the series reads: “Set in Manchester, Life follows the stories of the residents of a large house divided into four flats. As each of the four stories unfold and intertwine in surprising ways, they tell a larger story about what happens when we step out of our personal space and take a closer look into other people’s lives.
“Life explores love, loss, birth, death, the ordinary, the extraordinary and everything in between.”
Giving an insight into the links between the two series’, show creators added earlier this year: “In the last series of Doctor Foster, Anna split up with Neil and moved away, but I loved her as a character and suspected that was really the start of her story, rather than the end.”
The BBC is yet to officially announce the release date for the new series, but this is expected to be revealed in the next few weeks, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled.
