An eagle-eyed driver has spotted something wrong with the new road signs in central Manchester.
At first glance, they look fine.
Familiar font. Usual size. Typical design. Etc.
Indeed, most people sat behind wheels in busy city centre traffic would only ever give these boards a cursory glance at best, so it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that the anomaly has largely gone unnoticed until now.
However, a closer look reveals that these road signs actually contain an awkward error.
‘Piccadilly’ is missing something…
A social media user snapped an image of one sign and posted it on the Mint Manchester Facebook group, inviting Mancs to spot the slip-up themselves.
People piled in to point out that Piccadilly was indeed lacking a ‘c’, joking it was perhaps part of council cutbacks.
But then more users started contesting the signs actually contained multiple spelling errors for true northerners.
Some of the arguments were as follows:
‘Hospital’ should be ‘hospickle’.
‘Manchester’ should be ‘Manchestooor’.
‘Aquatics’ should be ‘Aquaics’ (after all, the ‘t’ is silent, isn’t it?).
If you’re a born and bred Manc, you might just be inclined to agree with the above.
In the meantime, the council probably need to change those signs…
