It’s been over 20 years since they last released new music to the world – but the Teletubbies are back with a new album.
Titled Ready, Steady, Go!, the new album will feature 10 brand-new songs, including the title track single and Peekaboo – which are both due to be released on 25 September.
Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa, and Po – who celebrate the milestone of first appearing on our screens 25 years ago next year, after the original children’s TV series aired from March 1997 to February 2001, and a revival airing from November 2015 to October 2018 – will release eight singles and accompanying music videos every subsequent Saturday.
The full album will then be available to buy, stream, and download from 15 October.
And just like when they have released music in previous years, this new album will also see the beloved characters up against some heaver hitters in the battle to top the UK charts.
The release will see them go head to head with Coldplay – who are releasing their ninth studio album Music Of The Spheres on the same day.
Not only do they have Coldplay to contend with, but the race to the top this year could also reignite a memorable 1990s chart battle with the Spice Girls, who beat the Teletubbies’ song Say “Eh-oh!” to Christmas number one in 1997 with their song Too Much.
The iconic girl group are due to release a greatest hits compilation, Spice 25, two weeks later on 29 October to mark their own 25th anniversary.
Whether or not they top the charts, with the release of the new album next month, the Teletubbies’ will however be looking to replicate some of the commercial success of their 1998 compilation Teletubbies – The Album, which remained in the top 100 for 41 weeks and has sold more than 1.3 million copies.
They also released an album, Big Hugs, in 2017 with music from the new series.
