An abandoned shopping centre in Wigan is set to be transformed into an immersive zombie apocalypse experience.

With the spooky season setting in, and Halloween right around the corner, The Galleries shopping complex in the heart of Wigan town centre is joining the rest of the region in putting on some frightening-themed events by transforming into ‘The Terror Mall’ and challenging participants to battle and survive a lair of blood-thirsty zombies – all played by actors, of course.

It won’t be for everyone, but those brave enough to take part will be given a storyline to follow along with, before being tasked with the mission of “saving humanity” from the zombie plague that has taken over the town.

“The world has fallen,” an official description for the event reads.

“We thought we had survived the disease cured in our infirmary, only for the dead to return as a plague.

“Zombies run wild and are unable to be contained even by our military [and] we need your help in order to save the last remnants of humanity before all is lost.

“Rumours have emerged of a sweet that can provide superhuman strength [and] we have acquired a batch of them to battle the zombie infestation and you are our only chance of survival as a species. You will be given the ‘treatment’, then sent into the zombie lair to try and recover an antidote that was designed by our doctor before he turned.

“Hopefully you can save humanity.”

Organised by escape rooms company Adrenaline Escape, this immersive experience first debuted in 2019, and sold out within days.

Speaking of the return of the successful event, Daniel Brooks – co-owner of Adrenaline Escape – said: “We’re really excited that we’ve been given the green light for Terror Mall in 2021… [as] it’s a great live experience, perfect for Halloween, and full of drama and suspense [and] anyone who takes part certainly won’t be disappointed.”
