George Ezra has had to pull the plug on his upcoming Manchester gig after contracting chickenpox.
The Shotgun singer announced the news on Twitter, sharing a video from his bed.
Visibly covered in the red spots that are so common with the disease, George said he was ‘absolutely gutted’ to have to reschedule three upcoming shows.
He was due to perform at the Manchester Opera House theatre on Sunday 27 February, as well as in Edinburgh and London.
But after being struck down with ‘miserable’ chickenpox, all three gigs have been pushed back to April.

The highly contagious chickenpox infection usually affects children, but you can get it any age.
It’s characterised by an itchy, spotty rash, which blisters and then scabs over.

Other symptoms include a high temperature, aches and pains, and a loss of appetite, the NHS says.
In the video, with spots across his face and chest, George said: “Hello, as you can see, I’ve got chickenpox, which I never had as a kid, and it is miserable.
Hello 👋 As you can see, I’m pretty under the weather right now with chicken pox so I’m sorry to say that I’m going to need to move my upcoming shows.

“It’s all of the fatigue and fever of the virus but you also want to scratch at your skin all the time.

“Erm, yeah, what this means is that I can’t perform at the upcoming shows in Manchester, Edinburgh and London, which I’m absolutely gutted about.
“Recording this video is the last thing I want to be doing.
“Even on a selfish level, I’ve not performed since 2019 and I was so much looking forward to getting back up there and swining my hips, but it’s just not going tohappen.
“I hope you’re all well, and now more than ever, I cannot wait to see you all.
“I’m going to focus on trying to clear this up and get a bit better. Apologies. See you soon.”
George Ezra will now perform at the Opera House in Manchester on 13 April – existing tickets are valid for the new date.

Urgent open water safety appeal issued after teen tragically dies in Dovestone Reservoir

A new open water safety appeal has been issued after the body of a teenager was recovered from Dovestone Reservoir.
At around 7pm last Friday evening (10 July 2026), emergency services responded to an incident at popular beauty spot Dovestone Reservoir in Oldham, and upon arrival, they located a man, confirmed to be 18 years of age, unresponsive in the water.
The body was recovered from the water, but despite the best efforts of medical professionals, the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Speaking on the tragic situation, Detective Inspector Steven Horton, from GMP’s Oldham district, said: “We have tragically recovered the body of an 18-year-old man from the water and are conducting extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances.
“Our thoughts remain with his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.”
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) is also urging parents and guardians to remind their children about the dangers of swimming and jumping into open water during the hot weather and summer months.

One of the most common dangers is cold water shock, as even on warm days, cold water can quickly overwhelm the body, and hidden hazards below the water’s surface can also place people in danger within seconds.
Anyone who finds themselves getting into difficulty in the water is urged to put their head back with their ears submerged, relax and try to breathe normally, and move their hands to help them stay afloat, remembering that it’s okay if your legs sink as ‘we all float differently’, GMFRS says.
“You can spread your arms and legs to improve stability,” the fire service added in its appeal.
GMP echoed that the public’s safety is ‘our priority’, adding: “Please look after yourselves and enjoy the weather safely.”

Police appeal after woman is killed by driving wrong way down M62 near Rochdale

Police have issued an urgent appeal after a woman has sadly been killed while driving the wrong way down the M62.
At around 11pm yesterday (11 July 2026), officers from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) we were called to reports of an incident where a grey Nissan Juke had collided with a grey BMW X5 between Junction 21 and 22 of the M62, near Rochdale.
It is believed the Nissan was travelling in the wrong direction on the eastbound carriageway prior to the collision, police have confirmed.
The driver of the Nissan – who is said to be a woman aged in her 50s – suffered serious injuries following the collision and sadly died at the scene, while the driver and passengers of the BMW were only treated for minor injuries.
No arrests have been made at this time in relation to this incident, GMP said.
An investigation has been launched and the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
They are keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam or CCTV from the area in the moments leading up to the incident.
