GMP and GMFRS to hold ‘pre-planned exercise’ in Manchester city centre today
"The exercise is not a real incident or emergency."
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has confirmed that a “pre-planned exercise” is to take place in Manchester city centre today.
According to a statement released by the force on social media this morning alerting visitors to the city centre of the scenario, GMP and it’s partner agencies – which also includes Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service (GMFRS), and other emergency services – are all taking part in the training operation today.
The “mock scenario” exercise has been organised to make sure officers have training for real-life situations, but no further details on the location or timings have been revealed.
Police have confirmed it’s “not related” to counter terrorism.
Revealing more about the operation in its statement this morning, GMP said: “Greater Manchester Police and partner agencies will today (Monday 28 February 2022) take part in an exercise in Manchester city centre.
“This exercise is not a real incident or an emergency.
“It is a mock scenario, and not related to counter terrorism policing.
“This is a test of the multi-agency response to incidents and emergencies, ensuring we work together to deliver an outstanding service.”
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) also confirmed via social media that will too be taking part in the incident this morning tweeted: “We will be taking part in an exercise in Manchester City Centre today with GMP and partners.
“The exercise is not a real incident or emergency.
“This will test the multi-agency response to incidents and emergencies, ensuring we work together to deliver an outstanding service.”
