Bread Flower is the latest addition to the exciting collection of independents at Manchester’s new £250 million canalside neighbourhood KAMPUS.
Bread Flower – which delivers bundles of six sourdough bagels, with a mix of toppings and sides, and a beautiful hand-tied bunch of seasonal flowers to Manchester locals every Sunday morning – is a collaboration between Prestwich-based baker Maya Black and florist Scarlett Jamieson from Salford, who’ve been friends since they were teenagers.
Bagels and bouquets will be available for collection from KAMPUS between 10am-12pm from Sunday 2nd May.
Selling out within just 40 minutes when they launched the company last month, the duo have been struggling to meet demand from their current kitchen in Altrincham, and will therefore be based in the KAMPUS Bungalow – an ex-security cabin on stilts overlooking the canal that has been transformed into a flexible, creative space for pop ups.
The bakery and florist crossover company joins Blossom Coffee Roasters, Manchester Smokehouse, and Common & Co as recently-announced additions to the growing neighbourhood.

“We’re very excited to be moving Bread Flower into KAMPUS.” Maya Black said.
“We only launched at the beginning of April but have been overwhelmed and very humbled by the demand for our bagel and flower bundles [and] KAMPUS feels like the perfect place for us to grow and to continue to develop Bread Flower – it’s already opened up more possibilities for us.

“It’s a beautiful space too, with the jungle like garden and right on the canal, and the perfect city centre location.
“We’re really looking forward to seeing what the next few months hold”.
Bread Flower bundles will set you back anywhere from £30, but what exactly is included then?

x6 sourdough bagels with a mix of toppings – plain, sesame, poppy and ‘everything’ seasoning (sesame, poppy, dried garlic and onion).
A choice of x2 sides (choose between a selection of flavoured schmears and hummus).
Adam Brady from KAMPUS’ developers, HBD said: “The Bungalow’s always been about giving local independents and start ups a chance to find their feet and grow [and] Bread Flower will be here when our first residents start moving in and what better way to wake up on a Sunday morning than to freshly baked bagels and a beautiful bunch of flowers?
“The whole idea is that the Bungalow is a flexible space with lots of things alongside each other, from pop ups to community uses, so if you’ve got a great idea and need a venue, get in touch”.
The buzz surrounding KAMPUS has increased in recent weeks, with the first images of the waterside development being released back in March, and one and two bedroom apartments now available to view in North Block, which is the first of five individual buildings to complete alongside its sister South Block – two beautiful Victorian shipping warehouses and a 1960s brutalist tower.

A series of ‘everyday fixes’ to help combat the rising cost of living crisis are soon to be rolled out nationwide.
Kicking off with two measures today, new Prime Minister Andy Burnham has announced that he plans to ban retailers from making ‘misleading’ claims to customers about discounts.
The Government says shoppers have ‘increasingly complained’ about outlets artificially inflating prices to give a false sense of value, such as increasing prices only to then immediately advertise ‘discounts’ to make savings look larger than they really are, which goes on to create an uneven playing field for honest competitors.
The Prime Minister also wants to see an end to so-called ‘subscription traps’, where people find it hard to cancel their subscriptions, and contracts are automatically renewed at a higher cost.
Set to come into force in January 2027 and saving people an average of £14 a month for every unwanted subscription, the changes will mean businesses will need to provide clearer up-front information, regular reminders. and a ‘much easier’ exit to contracts.

A new 14-day cooling-off period will also be introduced to let consumers cancel after a trial or long-term contract renews.
Certain charitable memberships, like the ones for cultural and heritage organisations for example, will be excluded from the new subscription rules due to the fact they have a unique role in preserving the nation’s history, landscapes, and cultural collections.
The Prime Minister says he is ‘determined’ to use every chance he gets to restore fairness and take pressure off people.
“I know people are sick and tired of rip-off discounts and subscription traps,” Andy Burnham said. “Westminster has got used to telling people that everyday hassles like this are just part of life, but I don’t think that’s right, especially when the cost of living continues to weigh heavily on so many people’s lives.”
He concluded: “These are just two of the everyday fixes we’re going to be rolling out.
“We want to put more money in people’s pockets and give people hope that politics really can work for them and their everyday lives.”

Get ready to spend the summer in space, as the Science and Industry Museum has announced its summer events programme and it’s full of free interactive events and activities to get involved with these next six weeks.
From live space shows and giant rockets, to tinkering activities Martian discovery trails, and the chance to visit the blockbuster exhibition Horrible Science: Cosmic Chaos if you haven’t already, budding astronauts are in for a summer to remember.
By far one of the stand-out free events this summer is the arrival of 30-foot-tall rocket ship, Skybolt 2 – hosted by Manchester-based aerospace company, Starchaser.

Thrill seekers, this one’s for you – as Zip World Manchester has launched its new Forest Tubing experience, and it’s bringing the UK’s longest outdoor tubing slide is coming to Heaton Park.
The new family‑friendly outdoor adventure gives visitors the chance to soar along two slides, winding through woodland at one of the largest parks in the North West.
Suitable for children aged four and above, visitors can book an hour-long session – with unlimited rides during that time slot – and either ride solo, or share the experience with fellow adventurers.
Chester Zoo is keeping its gates open late into the evening across two special weeks this summer.
The UK’s biggest charity zoo has announced the return of Afterglow, which is known and loved for offering visitors the rare opportunity to explore the zoo and its 30,000 animals after hours.
Unlike previous years, visitors will no longer need to leave Chester Zoo’s grounds and return with a separate event ticket. Instead, guests can spend the entire day exploring the zoo before enjoying Afterglow‘s evening programme, all as part of a standard admission ticket.
Manchester is bringing 14 weeks of free activities for children to parks across the city this summer.
Thanks to additional Council funding that was allocated earlier this year, Manchester’s biggest-ever Parktastic programme has now launched – expanding from the summer holidays alone to include after-school sessions before schools break up, activities throughout the holidays, and even sessions continuing into September.
Back by popular demand and aimed at children ages six-12, Parktastic offers sports, games, arts and crafts, dance, drama, nature activities, storytelling and messy play.

Sessions are free, no booking is required, healthy snacks are provided, and children can simply turn up and join in.

Running through until the autumn, shoppers and locals will be able to admire 13 portraits of Manc icons, which measure up to six-metres in length – whether it’s Oasis legends or Suffragettes, football heroes or creative pioneers.

Forbici is now open at the Trafford Centre, and of course, staying true to its name, every pizza is served with a pair of scissors for cutting.
Following the opening of its first site on Cross Street in the city centre last year, before expanding over to Sheffield, this new 7,000-capacity Trafford Centre space at The Orient is Forbici’s third restaurant in the UK and the second in Greater Manchester.
All pizzas are crafted with signature three-generation ‘biga dough’, slow fermented to create a light, airy crust, alongside carefully sourced Italian ingredients.
