The UK's largest bakery chain and pastie Mecca of the North, Greggs, has extended its meatless range a step further today.
The popular food chain has officially put its vegan steak bake on sale in a total of 1300 stores.
The steak bake makes its entrance after their vegan sausage roll became a massive hit for the bakery chain, which serves around six million customers every week from 2,000 shops.
And much like the vegan sausage roll last year, the steak bake launches as part of Veganuary – the growing movement that encourages people to go vegan for the month of January as a way to promote and educate about a vegan lifestyle.
The steak bake, which will cost you £1.55, will be rolled out to the remaining 700 stores on January 16.
Talking about the latest instalment, Greggs’ chief executive Roger Whiteside said: "Our vegan sausage roll launch was a huge success and we’ve been working tirelessly to expand our vegan-friendly offering and provide more delicious savoury food on-the-go options for people looking to reduce their meat intake."
The bake has 96 layers of "light and crisp puff pastry" and is filled with Quorn pieces, diced onions, and finished with a gravy filling.
To find your closest vegan steak bake, Greggs has also created a Steak Bake Finder which launches at 10am.
Signing off, Mr Whiteside concluded: ‘The launch of our Vegan Steak Bake is another key milestone on our journey to become our customers’ favourite for food-on-the-go. We look forward to hearing the feedback."
