Krispy Kreme wants you to design a ‘thank you’ doughnut for frontline heroes

Krispy Kreme

You can design a doughnut masterpiece that will contribute to the mission of “serving half a million smiles”.

Are you looking for your next lockdown activity? Something a bit different?

Krispy Kreme is inviting people at home to channel some of their quarantine time into a winning doughnut design.

The newly designed doughnut will be used to say 'thank you' and show appreciation for the frontline staff, critical workers and community heroes in the battle against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, before later being sold as a limited-edition fundraising doughnut for charity.

The popular doughnut chain is calling on fans, bakers, illustrators and all self-isolators to design a joy-filled creation of their desire.

The project aims to bring a moment of much needed lightness to those working tirelessly during the pandemic and will do so all whilst raising funds for the much needed causes of the crisis.

The winner’s design will be turned into a real life Krispy Kreme doughnut that will be part of a doughnation of 300 doughnuts to be safely delivered to the three finalists’ NHS trust or frontline charity organisation of choice and will help serve smiles to those who need it most.

The winning creation will also excitingly inspire a new Krispy Kreme retail product to go on sale in the winner’s home region stores once Krispy Kreme reopens.

20% of the proceeds of this will be donated to charity in support of COVID-19 causes.

Louise Direito, competition judge and Krispy Kreme UK’s Head of Doughnut Innovation, said:
This doughnut is going to be received by some exceptional people and raise funds for a very worthy cause, so it’s very special and exciting to be involved in selecting and bringing this doughnut to life. I can’t wait to see the creativity and then get working on the icing, flavours and toppings."

If you're wanting to create your own 'thank you' doughnut design, then today (Friday 1st May) by midnight is your last chance to enter.

You can submit your entries to Krispy Kreme on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #DesignForDoughnations, or you can email them to -

This April, Krispy Kreme launched its mission to serve half a million smiles via contactless doughnut drops to NHS hospitals, charities, food banks, police stations and community heroes, as well as opening its drive-thrus for NHS, police and fire services and recruiting a volunteer staff team to deliver to local neighbourhood heroes.

So far, it has successfully and safely served 360,000 smiles to frontline and community causes.
