Popular city centre coffee house Michaels to open new Manchester Arndale cafe

Manchester Arndale is set to welcome another new resident very soon.

Michaels Coffee House is already one of the best-loved places to get your caffeine fix and a bite to eat in the city centre, but now it’s been announced this week that it’ll become the next independent Manchester business to move into Manchester Arndale after signing a 10-year lease to occupy a space on Halle Place.

The beloved business was founded by Thanasis Michael back in 2017, and has been serving up high-quality and ethically-sourced coffee in Manchester’s Royal Exchange ever since.

As well as offering an extensive range of hot and cold coffee drinks, you can also get smoothies, milkshakes, and juices, as well as curb your hunger cravings with toasties, breakfast buns, soups, pancakes, and so much more.

You can also satisfy your sweet tooth with a collection of different pastries, cakes, and cookies.

Everything you know and love about Michaels, including all of the limited-edition seasonal specials launched each year, will be moving to the city’s biggest shopping centre very soon.

Speaking on the announcement of Michaels’ move to the Arndale, Scott Linard, who is the Portfolio Manager for M&G Real Estate – one of the joint asset management companies for Manchester Arndale – said: “It’s great to welcome another growing Manchester-based business to the centre as we continue our commitment of supporting local independent brands who are seeking to grow their presence in the city.”

Steve Gray, who is the Head of European Retail Asset Management at Global Mutual, called Michaels an “exciting independent cafe” providing shoppers with a great choice of food and drink options.

Volunteers needed as major UK food donation drive launches ahead of festive season

A major food donation drive has launched across the UK ahead of the festive season, and volunteers are needed to lend a hand.

With spooky season nearly over and Christmas fast approaching, food banks and charities will be facing record levels of need this winter, and because of this, a call for volunteers has been put out nationwide.

People being urged to “give the gift of their time” and take part.

Organised by one of the country’s biggest supermarket chains, and supported by the two leading food poverty organisations, Trussell and FareShare, the Tesco Winter Food Collection is now in its twelfth year and will taking place at hundreds of Tesco stores throughout the UK over the last few days of November.

Tesco shoppers will be encouraged to donate long-life food to support the charities in their work throughout the colder months.

Donations for Trussell will help its network of food banks provide emergency food parcels to people who are unable afford the essentials this winter, while donations to FareShare will support its network of 8,000 local charities and community groups working to feed people in local communities nationwide. 

Volunteers are needed at collection points in store to speak to customers and “raise awareness of the impact” that every donation will have on those who rely on Trussell and FareShare for food.

“Every year, our Winter Food Collection gets such an amazing response from our customers,” explained Claire De Silva, who is the Head of Community at Tesco.

“We know that they give even more generously when we have volunteers in our stores helping them to choose the right items that are needed, so we would urge anyone who can to please sign up and help make a difference.”

The countryside pubs serving free breakfasts to walkers

A brisk walk through the countryside followed by a (completely free) hearty breakfast – can you imagine a more perfect start to a great British weekend?

A popular pub group with several country pubs around Greater Manchester is now offering complimentary breakfasts to any punters who can show they’ve completed a local walking route.

For example, you could take a stroll around Werneth Low – which happens to be a viral viewpoint and a great place to watch the sunset – before kicking back at the Hare & Hounds and tucking in to a free brekkie.

Or you could head to The Didsbury pub, which also happens to be the starting point of the Didsbury Dozen pub crawl (though that’s a very different weekend), after taking a loop around the beautiful Fletcher Moss.

Also serving up a free pub breakfast to walkers is The Axe and Cleaver near Dunham Massey, one of Greater Manchester’s very best beauty spots.

It’s part of a collaboration between the Chef & Brewer Collection pub group and AllTrails, an app which is packed with countryside walk ideas.

The pub says: “At the Chef & Brewer Collection, we cherish the countryside and enjoy discovering what it has to offer from the great tastes of its hand-picked and closely nurtured produce, to the history and tales forged into its landscapes.

“We have partnered with AllTrails to help our guests discover more of their back garden, and to get them exploring the beauty, sights, sounds and smells of nature and its environment that envelopes our beautifully located country pubs.

“Discover a number of walks, from leisurely strolls to brisk rambles that all start or end at one of our pubs.”

Dishes you can feast on include maple bacon pancake stacks, house Benedicts, and a Farmers Breakfast with new potato hash with scrambled egg, smoked streaky bacon, spinach, Barber’s mature cheddar and paprika.

The free breakfasts are available every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in October.

To claim your breakfast, simply download the AllTrails app and show that you’ve completed a local walking route, or show the step count on your smart phone or watch to a member of the team in your chosen pub.
