A man, believed to be in his 60s, has died after falling into the water at Salford Quays

A man has sadly died shortly after entering the water at Salford Quays this morning.

The man, believed to be in his 60s, was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead soon after.

A large emergency services presence has been in attendance at the scene this lunch time, the Manchester Evening News has reported.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Police were called just before 11am this morning (Thursday 18 November) to reports that a man had entered the water at Ontario Quay, Salford Quays.

“Emergency services attended, and a man believed to be in his 60s was taken to hospital, and despite the best efforts of paramedics, pronounced dead a short time later.

“Officers are currently at the scene and are working to establish the circumstances around what has happened.

“Police aren’t looking for anyone else in connection with this incident, and enquiries are ongoing.”

Police, paramedics and firefighters were rushed to the scene.

The incident happened near the Salford Watersports Centre, a short distance from the Lowry Theatre.
