Disruption is expected as a major road in Manchester set to be fully resurfaced next week, the Council has confirmed.
Following an assessment of the conditions of the road surface on Princess Parkway – which is a major thoroughfare in and out of Manchester city centre – Manchester City Council says it has made the decision to fully repair the carriageway that runs from the M60 Junction 5 off slip, to the junction of Barlow Moor Road.
The necessary resurfacing work – which is being carried out in collaboration with National Highways – is planned to start next Monday (19 February), and will run right through until Saturday 24 February.
The Council has apologised for the “short notice” of this project.
Manchester motorists are, however, being assured that these improvement works will only take place during the nighttime to “ensure the safety of motorists and repair crews” – with the working hours set to be from 9pm to 5am.
A number of lane closures will be in place for the duration of the works, which means some disruption is to be expected next week.
Motorists are being encouraged to plan their journeys ahead of time to minimise any disruption.
As with any infrastructure updates, the Council is urging people to check Transport for Greater Manchester‘s (TfGM) website and social media channels for the latest traffic updates during the course of the works.
“I’m pleased that we have been able to carry out this improvement work sooner than we had expected,” commented Councillor Tracey Rawlins, who is the Executive Member for Environment and Transport at Manchester City Council, ahead of the works starting next week.
“As a Council, we remain committed to improving our highways network, and we are confident this latest scheme of work will have a positive impact for motorists.
“We know this will cause some delays and disruption, but we are grateful for the public’s understanding during the course of works.”
