Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that detectives are treating the huge fire which broke out at a car showroom in Stockport this morning as arson.
The huge blaze, which broke out in the early hours of the morning at the Guy Salmon Land Rover and Jaguar showroom, saw round half a dozen fire engines rushed to the scene on Bailey Road.
A joint-investigation with Greater Manchester Police and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service is now underway.
Local residents nearby reported hearing loud bangs shortly before 12:40am and eyewitnesses saw huge balls of fire and large plumes of smoke billowing in the sky.
Commenting on the nature of the fire, a spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “Following initial enquiries, detectives are treating the incident as arson,”
“A joint-investigation with the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service is underway.”
“No arrests have been made.”
Fire crews are asking members of the public to continue avoiding the area whilst they “carry out damping down work”.
