The M62 is closed after a huge “fireball explosion” happened during rush hour this evening.

The closure has been enforced between Junction 22 (Saddleworth) and Junction 23 (Huddersfield) following what has been confirmed as a vehicle fire.

There are currently tailbacks to junction 21 for Milnrow – which are likely to get worse due to the seriousness of the incident.

Fire services and traffic officers are on scene. There are queues on approach to the closure with heavy traffic on the A672 into Ripponden and Denshaw onto the A640.

Transport for Greater Manchester are urging people to find an alternative way home.
