Lidl becomes the next store to sell its own version of the viral ‘Little Moons’ mochi ice cream
The new Vitasia Mochi Ice Cream packs hit the shelves of Lidl branches nationwide today.
Lidl has become the next supermarket chain to jump on board the ‘Little Moons’ hype train by selling its own version of the mochi ice cream.
Hot off the heals of ALDI’s announcement last month that it would be stocking the ice cream sensations in store after they skyrocketed in popularity and captured the attention of more than 500 million viewers from across the globe on the video sharing platform TikTok since the beginning of 2021, fellow budget supermarket chain Lidl has now also unveiled its take on the Japanese-inspired sweet treats.
The new Vitasia Mochi Ice Cream packs come in four summery flavours – succulent mango, smooth vanilla, indulgent chocolate, and fresh coconut – and they’re hitting the shelves of Lidl branches nationwide from today (Thursday 3 June).
And they’ll only set you back £2.99 for a pack as well, which is 50p cheaper than ALDI and more than 20% cheaper than rivals at Tesco and Ocado.
Mochi is a traditional Japanese rice cake made with “mochigome”, which is a short-grain glutinous rice, and they’re made by pounding the rice into a paste and then moulding it into the desired shape.
Traditionally, mochi balls are made during a Japanese ceremony called Mochitsuki.
Thanks to the elevated social media popularity and demand for the moon-shaped desserts since the turn of the new year, some mochi brands have reported that sales increased by a whopping 2,000% since January alone.
Because of this, it’s been near impossible to get your hands on them from your local supermarket.
Luckily, Lidl’s got you covered.
If you’re planning on heading to Lidl to grab a fresh box of these sweet, summery treats, then you can check opening times for your local branch here.
