A man has been charged with murder and possession of a Class A drug following an incident near the Printworks at the weekend, in which a 60-year-old ‘passer-by’ died.
Police were called to the city centre at 8pm on Saturday evening to reports of a disturbance outside a bar on Dantzic Street.
A 60-year-old man, who police say was a passer-by and not involved in the disturbance, was assaulted and died at the scene.
Callum Crosbie, of Coleridge Close, Newcastle upon Tyne, has been charged with murder and remanded in custody.
The 22-year-old has also been charged with possession of a class A drug.
A cordon was in place overnight near the Printworks on Saturday.
Around 10 people were reported to be involved in the disturbance on November 20.

Detective Inspector Mark Davis, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “This was a tragic incident where a man who wasn’t involved in the disturbance has lost his life, leaving his family understandably devastated.
“The cordon has been removed and officers are at the scene carrying out enquiries but we’re keen to speak to anyone who might have been in the area at the time as we believe a number of people were filming the incident and those videos may prove crucial to our investigation.
“Anyone with information or has footage is asked to report it online at www.gmp.police.uk quoting log 2792 of 20/11/2021. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
